About

Volunteers are needed to staff the firepits on the pier near the Portage Lake District Library for the Torchlight Parade and Fireworks on 2/7/2026 from 7:30-9:30. This opportunity allows others to enjoy the firework show near the waterfront while staying warm.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • There will be 2-3 firepits on the pier, depending on availability, and there will need to be at least 2 people managing each firepit.
  • The volunteers will start the fire in the firepits using a Theralog (fire starter) that will be provided along with fire wood. As the fire burns, the volunteers will need to add wood to the fire to keep it going. You are not required to put out the fire at the end of the evening.
  • Every year the City provides marshmallows and roasting sticks on the pier found in a Rubbermaid container near the firepits. There will also be a bucket for new roasting sticks and used ones. Please urge people to not throw their garbage around and leave sticks all over the pier.
  • Make sure the lid is on the marshmallow bin at the end of the evening.
