Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence (SPAN) is seeking Volunteers!

Open Opportunity

About

SPAN is a human rights organization committed to ending violence against adults, youth and children through support, advocacy, education and community organizing. SPAN began providing services in 1979 and is crucial to the network of support that offers critical “safety net” services to vulnerable, low-income and at-risk populations. It is the only organization serving Boulder, western Broomfield, smaller towns and unincorporated Boulder County designed to provide shelter and advocacy for victims of interpersonal violence at a time when our community is experiencing higher domestic violence rates than national and state averages.

SPAN is seeking Direct Client Volunteers to fill the following positions.  (Direct Client Volunteer Positions requires 33-hour training).

Crisis Line Volunteers: Provide professional support to crisis line callers, shelter residents and our shelter staff. Responsibilities include answering the phone and email hotlines and supporting staff with office assistance when needed.

Court Advocates: Help clients obtain protection orders and provide support and information at the Boulder and Broomfield justice centers. They may accompany clients to court hearings or advocate on their behalf during interactions with judicial officials.

Children’s Volunteers: Interact with children in group or individual settings by creating a safe and friendly environment conducive to open feelings and expression. Volunteers also provide general staff support to children’s groups and assistance at our summer kids camp program in July.

*Direct client work requires a 1-year minimum commitment, participation in SPAN’s anti-violence training (February, June or October) and monthly volunteer meetings.
